I have gotten a tremendous amount of information from you jet flyers, and others,
about present jet flying and we have reflown some of the stuff from years past.
In trying to bring myself up-to-date with 21st century Jet flying, I have accumulated
quite a bit of info and jet engine design from over the years and a few things about
present aircraft. We have been sharing most of this stuff on the forum under the
post of: "Thrust"., "How to make jets go fast on alkie", "Line Rake", and "Sport
Jet Rules." There is a lot of good info under the various postings even though alot
of it doesn't quite fit the "post subject."
Forgive me for being more than a bit wordy as I can type just about as fast as I can talk. I though I would start trying to accumulate the "history stuff" under this new posting so that we would have a place to add on info as it comes forward. I have communicated directly with some of you via e-mail and I just sent out a two page letter (US snail mail) to some older jet flyers whom I do not have e-mail addresses for. I used mailing addresses from a 1990 NASS list. I have e-mail list of Feb. 2005. Any fresher list would be appreciated.
There has been some previous Jet info that has circulated in the past. I did about 24 pages in the late 70s called "Jet Scoop" for the old "FAI Speed Gazette" that Doc Jackson kept going. In the 1980s Mike Hazel put together a "Jet Pack" to try and answer Jet questions that were flying around at that time. In 1996 Don Laird circulated and tremdous work taking the pulse jet back to the original German invention up to and including the Earl Bailey engine. He included all significate magazine articles and plans for C/L jets and engines up to that time. His detailed engine drawings of every C/L pulse jet engine he could get hold of are amazing. Then there are the articles from magazines and Speed Times that many of you have in the originals. Tom Wilk's CD has nearly all of this info up to 2003. I do not want to duplicate what others have done, But try and highlight what I feel are the most significate points in the History of C/L Jet Speed Flying. I am mainly going to zoom in on the engine modifications that have taken place thru the years, from the Original Dyna-jet (other engines were of little importance) up to the present "big engines" that are of original design. I will included significate aircraft designs that had significate inovations that aided in speed increases, engine performance, better flight characteristics etc. Fuels will be included when they were really significate in jumping engine performance.
You input is most imporant to weed out rumors and other exerigated claims that old memories tend to bring back as well as sharing the "jet secrets" of past years. I'm not sure where this undertaking will end up, but Dave Mark says we can run something in Speed Times, maybe a series, or even a special printed addition of somekind. We'll just light in to this thing and see where we end up.
